Resin Flooring Alternative

Epoxy or resin flooring solutions abound in the industrial, commercial and architectural sectors. Since the 1970s polymer-based terrazzo floors have become popular, initially composed of polyester and vinyl ester binder resins and later epoxy-based resins. More recently, an exciting new alternative to the traditional epoxy floor covering has emerged in the form of americancrete's polyurethane terrazzo.

The americancrete polyurethane terrazzo is ideal for architectural features such as walkways, patios, floors and curbing. A wide variety of colours can be achieved with color-pigmented fine marble aggregate blends and other aggregates such as recycled glass. Terrazzo is built on a solid, level concrete foundation that is several inches deep. Upon this foundation a 1-inch layer of concrete is laid with metal divider strips which serve as joints or allow for a change of color. The final finish of a polyurethane terrazzo is the same highly polished look as in conventional resin terrazzo flooring.

Why Limit Yourself to a Resin Flooring Lifespan?

As in industrial environments, durability makes all the difference if longevity of the flooring is high on the priority list. Since americancrete polyurethane flooring has the same CO efficient of thermal expansion as concrete, it moves at the same rate under thermal cycling, allowing for the best possible solution for exterior terrazzo flooring. Though resin flooring provides adequate coverage for a reasonable time span, it simply does not compare to the longeviity of a polyurethane terrazzo. This flooring alternative will provide higher strength and less susceptibility to cracking, in addition to resistance to the widest range of physical or chemical abuse.
